BROKEN BUT NOT BEATEN

An inspirational story on the strength of a woman.

From working with icons like Rihanna and Will Smith, to dancehall legends like Chaka Demus & Pliers and Beenie Man, and Afrobeat music stars like Wizkid, Flavour and Yemi Alade, Vania Reneau, also known as "Betty Rox," was on a high as a professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor when a catastrophic event left her with broken ankles and ribs, and questioning if she would ever be able to walk again.

I am convinced that if I made it through this, I can accomplish anything I manifest in this lifetime! - Betty Rox

On September 28th, 2019, my car was having some maintenance issues, so I took it in for repair. I decided to take a walk in the neighborhood to a local beauty supply. As I was walking, a vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and ran straight into me. I was rushed to the emergency room where the doctors discovered several injuries. I had 3 broken ribs, two broken ankles, a broken wrist and bruising on my head and back. I spent 67 days total in the hospital and in a rehabilitation facility before I was released to go home. My journey to recovery was not easy, but I was amazed at myself and how I overcame so many obstacles within that timeframe. Those months of healing required me to discover my strength physically, mentally and spiritually. I grew up in a Christian household and every moment that I spent recovering, I had "Faith" that I would bounce back 10 times stronger.

I have been a professional dancer for 20 years and I never once thought that one day, I would not be able to dance. I had to learn to walk again through physical therapy and so far my recovery has been miraculous. It has now been 9 months since my accident and I am happy to say that I am not only walking, but dancing again. One thing that has helped me through all of this, is understanding that everything is mental. Not allowing my mind to be clouded with negative thoughts has kept me on a positive path throughout my journey. Today I am most proud of the woman I have become. I am a different person than I was 9 months ago. I am convinced that if I made it through this, I can accomplish anything I manifest in this lifetime!
